A long Office Space quiz (that’s probably been out a while but I don’t care). It took awhile to get through all 100 questions, but I got 87 right. How well can you do?

The Office Space Quiz

It’s a minor accomplishment, and one that would the gym rats that I know roll over and pee themselves in laughter, but I am actually following the goals I set for myself to start walking every day on the treadmill.

Being a person whose butt is normally melded to some sitting surface, I have found it refreshing to get that big machinery rolling. I’m also starting lightly, seeing as the most physical exertion I’ve had of late includes running up the stairs of my house. This week – twenty minutes a day on the machine at lunch. And this isn’t leisurely strolling. I never realized how fast a pace it really is to walk 3.5 miles an hour. If I would be pumping my arms and wearing a coordinated outfit I’d probably look like those speed walkers everyone laughs at.

Anyway, just so I don’t give myself an early heart attack from sudden workout syndrome I figure I’m building up my routine in three week increments. Week 1 – 20 minutes at lunch. Week 2 – 20 minutes in the morning before work, 20 minutes at lunch. Week 3 – 20 in the morning, 20 at lunch, 20 in the evening. After that it’s playing with inclines and increasing my speed. I don’t expect to turn into some athletic freak, but if I can burn some fat, get the metabolism going, and give myself some better overall medical numbers it’ll be a good thing.

Then maybe I’ll order the walking suit and headband…

My brain is full of sporadic thoughts today, and most of them aren’t work related. Maybe by sharing them I can get a fresh start this afternoon.

The worst thing about telecommuting – there’s a freezer full of ice cream sandwiches beckoning me from across the room. Good thing I set up the treadmill yesterday.

While browsing through my local big box retail store this weekend I came across a nifty device – an FM modulator with a USB port that fits in the 12-volt outlet in a car (cigarette lighter for my Boone County friends). Apparently it transmits a low level FM signal to your car radio and plays MP3s stored on a flash memory drive. All for 30 bucks. I wonder if it works, and if it does my six hour drives to Charlotte just got a whole lot better. No more CD burning for me.

I really need to hang up some pictures in this office space I’ve carved.

On one hand, sportswriting seems like an interesting career choice when I hit my midlife crisis. On the other hand, do I really want to be in the same room as Bob Hertzel, Danny Wells, and Chuck Landon?

The Rail-Trail that runs through Morgantown is a wonderful creation, and the sun shining through my basement door makes me want to be there instead of here.

I really need to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I hope there’s not a cutoff point.

Having seen that video of the five year old getting cuffed, I hope like hell that I’m 10 times the parent that mother is.

Is Kings still offended?

I really suck at updating things. Like this.

OK, this time I have an excuse. We spent the last couple of weeks moving things into our new (ok, not new – recently purchased) house, including a grueling Monday where we brought over the furniture from our apartment. Thanks to the in-laws for the truck and the muscle.

Phone, cable, and broadband (obviously) are functional, even if I’m not. Our main floor is looking pretty well organized and unloaded. The basement family room is organized, but has a nice pile of boxes al “staged” up and ready to take to another room. The garage? That’s the holding cell for the fun, though it is slowly clearing.

Once everything is unboxed life will feel better. However, knowing that I’m actually paying money on something I will own and not just throwing my cash in the toilet for rent is pleasing too.
